Will the Tomahawk cruise missiles be a Game-changer in the Russia-Ukraine War?
As the Russia-Ukraine War drags on, a new escalation may be looming on the horizon.
US President Donald Trump has been mulling the supply of US Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, as his efforts at peace making between the two sides have yet to bear fruit.
So what could the implications of such a move be?
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said that the extended-range Tomahawk variant could be employed to about 2,500 kilometres (1,553 miles), which would put at least 1,945 Russian military targets in range.
The reports listed various sites, including a large Shahed drone factory in the Alabuga industrial zone in Tatarstan and numerous military airfields. The report further claimed that 76 air bases would be reachable by the extended-range Tomahawks and 67 by the standard version
Russia’s Response
Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance, speaking to Fix News had said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had asked for the missiles for it’s on-going war with Russia.
Russia is closely observing the the situation. The Kremlin has stated that the long-range Tomahawk missile would not bring significant change to the battlefield. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said it was essential to find out if America or Ukraine supplied the targeting data for missiles.
President Donald Trump will take the final call on the delivery of the Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine.
If the transfer does go ahead, it will mark a decisive escalation in the three years long war which has claimed thousands of lives on either side.
