Obviously, not inviting Russia and inviting only one party to a conflict to a meeting to resolve the same conflict is a non-starter. Having just entered into a truce with archrival Iran earlier this year, Saudis would know this well. So what was the Jeddah meeting all about?

The first meeting in this format is aimed at further strengthening the relations of strategic partnership and mutual trust, continuing a constructive dialogue in the search for mutually acceptable solutions to topical issues facing the three countries and the region as a whole.
As India holds the presidency of the G20 this year, it has pushed for multiple discussions on reformed multilateralism and seeks to amplify the voice of the Global South. This provides the AU with a window of opportunity for its integration into the G20
The recent constitutional changes, endorsed by a country-wide referendum, seek to make Uzbekistan a welfare state. The new constitution proclaims “Uzbekistan is a sovereign, democratic, rule-of-law, social and secular state with a republican form of government.” With the economy growing because of the reforms, there is also more fund allocation for social and public welfare.
During its 20-year stay in Afghanistan, the US government had said that the country is estimated to hold at least $1 trillion worth of lithium which could help pull out the country from its economic mess. For the Taliban, which is still trying to establish an effective government in the country in the face of global opposition and frozen bank accounts, China seems to give hope.
The agreements signed between India and the UAE are not only significant, but may also be laying out a new paradigm in how countries will be conducting their foreign and international economic policy.
