Kyrgyzstan has launched a new trade corridor to the warm waters of the Arabian Sea Via China and Pakistan. The new corridor runs along the Bishkek-Torugart-Kashgar-Khunjerab-Islamabad-Karachi route and covers approximately 3,300 kilometers.

The route provides the republic with direct access to global sea routes, which is especially important for a country without its own ocean access as Kyrgyzstan is a landlocked country.

The project aims to expand logistics capabilities, increase foreign trade, and reduce dependence on certain routes.

According to Pakistani Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Altamash Wazir Khan, the first cargo has already been successfully delivered along this route. The shipment was coordinated by the relevant agencies of the two countries, ensuring smooth passage of all sections of the route.

The launch of the corridor was discussed at a meeting of SCO transport ministers. The initiative is seen as one of the steps to strengthen Kyrgyzstan’s transit potential and integrate it into regional transport chains.

Earlier, the launch of a new logistics corridor from Pakistan to Central Asia, bypassing Afghanistan, was announced. Refrigerated trucks carrying frozen beef departed from the port city of Karachi on the Arabian Sea to Tashkent. The trucks passed through the Iranian border terminal of Gabrd-Rimdan, crossed into Turkmenistan, and successfully reached their destination.

Pakistani authorities view this overland route, launched on a pilot basis, as a promising channel for accessing the markets of Central Asian countries with a population of approximately 70 million.
