Media: Pakistan, Turkmenistan hope for early completion of TAPI gas pipeline project

Pakistan and Turkmenistan hope for early completion of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, a report in the Pakistani publication The Nation said.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari received Turkmenistan’s Ambassador Atajan Movlamov. “Both the sides expressed the desire for the early completion of the TAPI Gas Pipeline, which would not only support Pakistan’s economy but would also help meet its energy needs.”
Zardari also has called for an early finalization of the Transit Trade Agreement (TTA) with Turkmenistan. He said it “would help expand trade, promote regional connectivity as well as enhance economic activities in the region”.
Experts told Daryo that construction of TAPI, with a capacity of 33bn cubic metres of gas per year, began in December 2015. The Turkmen side has previously said that during this period it has brought a linear pipeline to the Afghan border and carried out work to prepare the raw material source Galkynysh.
Experts told Daryo that conditions for the construction and operation of the Afghan and Pakistani sections of the 1,639-km pipeline are currently being considered.
