The Durand Line and Afghan Pakistani clashes

Frequent violent clashes between Afghan and Pakistani security forces along their disputed border, the colonial-era Durand Line drawn in 1893, have strained ties between Islamabad and Kabul. Afghanistan does not accept the legitimacy of the Durand Line, claiming it is a violation of its sovereignty, while Pakistan believes it is an accepted international border. These tensions will likely worsen following the pending departure of the Americans from Afghanistan.

The peace negotiations will be resumed after the Afghan elections are over and till such time the US will launch air strikes and military operations against the Taliban, whose leadership currently has been significantly weakened

“Direct talks” in Afghanistan needed

The long Afghan conflict can only be resolved by “direct talks” between its own people, the chief of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) told the Security Council on Tuesday, underscoring that they must be inclusive and represent “the whole spectrum of Afghan society”.

Why are Hazaras persecuted?

In recent decades, there has been a steady flow of Hazara refugees to Iran from Afghanistan. They constitute the majority of illegal migrants fleeing to Iran from harassment by the Baloch and Pushtuns in neighboring countries.
