We stand at interesting and rather daunting crossroads in global and domestic politics. The impact of the US General Election 2020 will be global and vast and will be scrutinized by all the nations of the world. The current President of the United State, Donald Trump, will run as the Republican nominee. What we do not know is, who will be the candidate on the opposite side. The social media is the modern day news carrier and so far we know that the following candidates have announced their intention to run for Presidency for certain: Elizabeth Warren, Julian Castro, Kamal Harris, and Tulsi Gabbard, among others to come. Of them the three are women and one is a “woman of color”. This spread of gender and ethnic identity is indeed quite spectacular.

Mothers, martyrdom, violent extremism and ‘azadi’ in Kashmir

There has been a rise in violence in Kashmir, amid claims of a growing culture of martyrdom that is beginning to form the new driving narrative for militancy and violence. This glorification of martyrdom as seen in Kashmir has its roots in growing violent extremism, the recruitment of young men to violence, and militarisation. This article takes up the issue by looking at the role of mothers giving up their sons for the cause, and finding their own agency in a patriarchal society through their son’s martyrdom.

Hindi to become official language in Abu Dhabi courts

Hindi is all set to become the third official language which will be used in Abu Dhabi courts. This was reported by several UAE media outlets. Arabic and English are the other two languages used in Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. According to The National this comes as part of a move designed to improve access to justice, according to the UAE newspaper The National.
