Kazakhstan Votes on Referandum for New Constitution
The Central Referendum Commission must announce official results no later than March 21, 2026. Results will be published in the media.
March 15, 2026: Voting in the national referendum on the new Constitution of Kazakhstan officially ended at 08:00 pm. local time. Election commissions began counting ballots. Deputy Chairman of the Central Referendum Commission, Mukhtar Yerman, presented preliminary turnout figures for the day, Qazinform News Agency reports.
According to territorial commissions, 9,126,850 citizens across the country came to vote. Preliminary turnout for the entire day reached 73.24%.
Exit poll results are expected after midnight. Final turnout figures will be announced once all overseas polling stations close.
Due to time differences, overseas stations opened by 07:00 pm. Astana time; 14 have already closed. The last station abroad in San Francisco, USA, will finish voting on March 16 at 08:00 am. Astana time.

On referendum day, 10,388 polling stations were opened across Kazakhstan, including 71 stations in 54 countries at Kazakh diplomatic missions.
International monitoring included 359 observers and 185 foreign journalists from 31 countries.
The referendum on the proposed draft of the Constitution marks a significant political milestone for Kazakhstan. Citizens were asked to voice their opinions on key changes to the country’s Supreme Law, addressing state governance, civil rights and freedoms, and other vital aspects of public life.
Although voting has finished in Kazakhstan, the process continues at polling stations located abroad. During a briefing at the Central Communications Service, Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Issetov announced that 64 international polling stations will complete operations by midnight on March 15. These stations are located in various countries where the Kazakhstani diaspora resides, includingin Indiakaza.
The overseas voting process will officially conclude at the polling station in San Francisco, which is to close on March 16 at 08:00 AM Astana time. Therefore, the referendum, organized as part of Kazakhstan’s democratic initiatives, will be finalized only after all ballots, including those from abroad, are counted.
Once the vote count is complete, official results will be announced and published.
