Saudi king holds phone call with PM Modi

Saudi Arabia is a strategic partner of India and ties with the kingdom forms a key pillar of India’s West Asian policy.

September 9, 2020, — Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who is also  made a phone call today to indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During the call, both sides  discussed the work of the G20 being presided over by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia this year and the efforts made within its meetings to address the COVID-19 pandemic and mitigate its implications.

For his part, the Indian Prime Minister hailed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s distinct leadership of the group’s meetings, expressing appreciation and his confidence that the world would benefit from the outcomes of the G20 meetings.

King Salman affirmed the importance that the G20 countries continue to exert efforts to mitigate implications of the pandemic on the peoples and global economy.

Both leaders agreed that the initiatives taken at the level of the G20 had helped in promoting a coordinated response to the pandemic.

The two sides reviewed aspects of existing cooperation between the two countries and ways of developing them in various fields, and also discussed the main priorities presently on the agenda of the G20.

The two leaders expressed their satisfaction at the state of bilateral relations between India and Saudi Arabia, and committed to further strengthen cooperation in all areas.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his special thanks to His Majesty King Salman for the support provided to Indian expatriates by the Saudi authorities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Prime Minister conveyed his warm good wishes for the good health and wellbeing of His Majesty King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, other members of the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia and all citizens of the Kingdom.

“Spoke on phone with His Majesty @KingSalman about the important role being played by the G20 under the Saudi Presidency, including against COVID-19. We also reviewed the tremendous growth in our bilateral ties in recent years,” Modi wrote on Twitter after the call.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the chair of the G20 this year.

Both countries have deepened cooperation and cemented ties with accelerated effort and speed. Saudi Arabia is a strategic partner of India and ties with the kingdom forms a key pillar of India’s West Asian policy.
