India reaches out to Kenya with Covid-18 related medicines

Nearly 75 Kenyan healthcare professionals and administrators have benefitted from specially designed by India online e-ITEC courses related to COVID19 management.

Nairobi: Acting Indian High Commissioner to Kenya Mr. Ashish Sinha handed over a gift of consignment of medicines to the people and Government of the Republic of Kenya. The gift was made in the presence of Hon. Ababu Namwamba, EGH, Chief Administrative Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, CAS of the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Republic of Kenya at KEMSA, Embakasi Depot, Nairobi.

Hon. Namwamba and Dr. Mwangangi appreciated India’s support to Kenya in health sector and Mr. Sinha reiterated the assurance of India’s continued support to Kenya in its fight against COVID19.

India has deepened it’s cooperation and support to, African countries in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, sending related drugs and humanitarian supplies.

In keeping with this,  during telephonic conversation some time ago, Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India, had assured Amb. Raychelle Omamo, SC, EGH, Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya, that India will remain a reliable partner for medical supplies.

During this crisis caused by COVID19 pandemic, nearly 75 Kenyan healthcare professionals and administrators have benefitted from specially designed online e-ITEC courses related to COVID19 management. As a special gesture, India had also allowed one-time commercial export of Hydroxychloroquine tablets at the time when it was prohibited for export from India.

Even earlier, in May 2020, fulfilling the commitment made during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kenya in July 2016, a second tranche of essential medicines was handed over, the first tranche of which was delivered in July 2018.

India and Kenya share warm and cordial relations which are poised to grow further.
