Rebels seize Damascus, Assad flees Syria
By IAR Desk
Syrian rebels in Damascus have declared the city “free of Bashar al-Assad,” amid reports that the long-time ruler has fled by plane. This development could represent a pivotal moment in Syria’s nearly decade-long civil war.
Rebel sources claim Assad left Damascus on a plane, though his destination remains unknown. They view his departure as a major victory for their movement, asserting that the city is now firmly under their control.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has confirmed that Assad’s forces have withdrawn from key parts of Damascus, including the presidential palace. According to the group, rebel fighters have taken over these areas and now control significant portions of the city.
