Shanghai Cooperation Organization
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit will take place in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan, from 3-4 July, 2024. This year the summit theme is “Strengthening Multilateral Dialogue – Striving for Sustainable Peace and Development “.
Participants at the summit are expected to sign 24 documents, and also adopt a declaration and statement about the adherence to the principles of good neighbourliness and unity. Besides this, leaders may also endorse a proposal for the comprehensive modernization of the SCO, in 9rder to emblematic it with dynamism in its development.
The organization was established in 2001. Currently, it has nine member-states: India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The SCO General Secretary Zhan Minhhad earlier in June announced that the Astana Summit would see the induction of Belarus as the newest member. Currently, Belarus has Observer status in the SCO.
Next year may see some newer members join the SCO in future.
Currently the SCO has:
3 Observer states – Afghanistan, Belarus, Mongolia.
14 Dialogue Partners – Azerbaijan,, Armenia, Bahrain, Egypt, Cambodia, Qatar, Kuwait, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia,, Turkey, Sri Lanka.
