Modi becomes Prime Minister of India for third term

New Delhi: June 9, 2024: Narendra Modi was sworn in as India’s Prime Minister for a third straight term. He becomes the country ‘s second prime minister since Jawaharlal Nehru in 1962, to score this hattrick as his National Democratic Alliance notched up a majority of seats in India’s parliamentary elections this year.
Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party, for the first time to n a decade fell short of the majority mark of 272 seats in India’s 543 seats parliament, wining only 240 seats. It, however, remains the largest party in the current parliament.
Modi’s coalition alliance, however, won 292 seats altogether, which ha allowed them to form the government, which will be a coalition government.
Together with Modi, members of his new cable net, which included Amit Shah and Rajnath singh, were also sworn in.
The President of India Smt. Draupadi Murmu administered the oath.
The ceremony was held under tight, multi-layered security .
As the oath taking ceremony was underway terrorists opened fire on hapless Hindu pilgrims in Reasi sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
Modi had invited heads of member states of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and Indian Ocean Rim countries. Guests included the President of Srilanka Ranil Wikramasinghe, President Mohammed Moizzu of the Maldives, Vice President of the Seychelles Ahmed Afif, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Haseena, Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jagganauth, Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and Tseringh Tobgai, the Prime Minister of Bhutan.
