India and China agree to measures to ease tensions in Eastern Ladakh
On September 21, the Indian and Chinese Senior Commanders held the 6th round of Military Commander-Level Meeting to discuss the situation on the Line of Actual Control
New Delhi: September 22,2020: Late Tuesday evening, a day after the sixth round of Sino-India Corps commander-level talks that lasted for 14-hours, India and China announced a slew of measures to ease tensions in Eastern Ladakh.
In a joint statement released on Tuesday evening, both the sides promised to refrain from sending more troops to the frontline, strengthen communication, avoid misunderstandings and misjudgments, and to refrain from unilaterally changing the situation on the ground, or taking any steps that can complicate the situation.
On September 21, the Indian and Chinese Senior Commanders held the 6th round of Military Commander-Level Meeting to discuss the situation on the Line of Actual Control or the LAC. Officials described the talks as being “candid and in-depth”.
A joint statement released said that both sides had a”greed to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen communication on the ground, avoid misunderstandings and misjudgments, stop sending more troops to the frontline, refrain from unilaterally changing the situation on the ground, and avoid taking any actions that may complicate the situation.”
The two sides also agreed to hold the 7th round of Military Commander-Level Meeting as soon as possible, take practical measures to properly solve problems on the ground, and jointly safeguard peace and tranquility in the border area.
The current round of talks between the two sides took place after the Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met his Chinese counterpart in Moscow earlier this month on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Defence Ministers meet, followed by a meeting between the Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Wang To, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang To, also in Moscow on the sidelines you f the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers’ meeting.
