The 61st Damascus International Trade Fair is on, inaugurated on Wednesday, 28th August, with a message of “victory” to the world. 38 Arab and foreign countries are participating in the fair which is being held under the motto “From Damascus… to the world” .
Representative of President al-Assad to the Fair, Prime Minister Imad Khamis, said in an opening speech that Syria, after 9 years of a hard and fierce war, is proud of the sacrifices of the army forces and their noble victories that liberated the majority of Syria from terrorism, the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA reported. It quoted the prime minister as saying “The war, to which Syria was exposed, has never been of military or political feature only, but it was, in one side of it, an economic terrorist war.”
He underlined that altogether with the Syrian armed forces, there were the workers and peasants at their factories and farms present with their production for whom some of them paid their lives.
“The government has started to implement hundreds of developmental projects in different provinces and to reconstruct the state’s institutions to maintain and consolidate the victories of the armed forces,” Khamis said.
He stressed that Damascus international fair returns today to complete its economic, social, cultural and civilizational message and to be a juncture between the East and the West.
“Syria welcomes every project of an economic cooperation, bilateral or collective, particularly it prepares for the reconstruction process with powerful investment opportunities, supported by intensified governmental efforts, Khamis said.
The Premier affirmed that all the Syrians are confident that the next round of the Fair will be held while the national flag hoist over each span of Syrian territory.
In a statement to journalists in the end of his tour, as reported by SANA, Khamis affirmed that launching the 61stedition of Damascus International Fair with the participation of a large number of foreign and Arab states and companies over the largest area ever since the fair was launched represents a message from the Syrian people and army to the whole world that Syria is strong and it is recovering.
Russia, Iran, China, Iraq, UAE, Venezuela, the Chamber of Commerce of the Sultanate of Oman, Belarus, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Cuba and Macedonia are some of the countries participating in the fair, which had a footfall of 100,000 on its very second day.
This is the second year in a row that the Syrian government has organised the international trade fair.
Syria is in need of immense reconstruction work in the aftermath of a civil war that has lasted almost a decade with fighting still ongoing between government forces and rebels in the northern province of Idlib.
The US has threatened sanctions on companies that are participating in the fair.
