Israel Launches Airstrikes on Iran in Operation Rising Lion

New Delhi: Friday, 13 June 2025: In the early hours of the day Israel launched a large-scale attack on sites in Iran, targeting military and nuclear facilities in the capital, Tehran, and other strategic areas such as Isfahan, Kermanshah, and Arak, known for their strategic industrial and military complexes.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing massive explosions and seeing Israeli aircraft bombing Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps bases.

A spokesperson for the Israeli military said that 200 jets were involved in the strikes on Iran on Friday and about 100 targets were hit.

Iranian state media reported the collapse of several buildings and the destruction of a residential complex housing senior military commanders. In a dangerous and unprecedented development, Iran announced the deaths of several of its senior military commanders and nuclear scientists, including Revolutionary Guard Commander General Hossein Salami, prominent nuclear scientist Fereydoun Abbasi, and Deputy Chief of Staff General Gholam Ali Rashid. These losses represent a severe blow to Iran’s leadership structure and indicate that Israel has shifted from a policy of individual assassinations to focused collective strikes targeting high-profile leaders simultaneously.

The strikes also killed a number of civilians. Iran’s official news agency confirmed the deaths of at least 12 civilians in the capital, Tehran.
