Bangladesh: Interim government announced after day of mayhem

As per information released by the Bangladesh United News Agency (UNB), Nahid Islam and other leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have proposed an interim government led by Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, in a bid to address Bangladesh’s ongoing challenge.This announcement was made in a video message released early hours of Tuesday by key student leaders Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud, and Abu Bakar Mazumdar.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Monday night gave his nod to form an interim government to run the country.

Islam said the protesters did not support any form of rule other than the government supported by students and citizens, and all those who died in the protests had been declared national heroes.
Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister have left their official residence in the capital Dhaka for safer locations following the riots.
According to sources she is currently in India, where she was met by India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Additional NSA Rajinder Khanna and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
It is believed that she will relocate to UK.
AFP reported that thousands of protesters had breached Hasina’s official residence after she left Bangladesh.
On August 4, Bangladesh’s “Students Against Discrimination Movement” announced a multi-day “non-cooperation with the government” campaign. Protests broke out in Dhaka and across the country, with anti-government college students clashing with police and pro-government personnel and the situation turning into riots.
The Bangladesh government has announced a curfew in Dhaka and other cities across the country from 18:00 local time (15:00 Moscow time) until a special order is issued. August 5, 6 and 7 are national holidays.
According to the Dhaka Tribune  police firings, mob beatings, and arson across the country have resulted in at least 135 people killed in Bangladesh on Monday.
Mobs ransacked Sheikh Hasina ‘s palace, even as her father and Bangladesh ‘s founding father Bangobondhu Mujibur Rahman’s statue was vandalised and desecrated.
People from all walks of life marched towards Chittagong, distributing sweets in celebration. After reports surfaced that Sheikh Hasina had departed from Bangladesh, people took to the streets to celebrate, Dhaka Tribune reported.
