Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and the Dilemma of Visibility

ISIS’s reclusive leader has taken a rare risk at an unusual moment: in 2019 the “Caliphate” is gone and Baghdadi has to move around clandestinely in a hostile environment patrolled by the most powerful military in the world. It remains to be seen if the frequency of Baghdadi’s media appearances will change significantly in the future.

Myanmar’s military must answer charges: UN body

Myanmar’s military commanders must answer charges of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide in a credible court, a United Nations Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Myanmar (FFM) said on Tuesday, urging the international community to cut off all financial and other support to them.
